Why I Love Teaching Reformer Pilates and Why It Matters at Symmetry

There’s something incredibly special about teaching Reformer Pilates, and it’s one of the reasons I love what I do so much at Symmetry.

Reformer Pilates truly is for everyone.

One day I might be working with international athletes, footballers, and professional dancers who want to improve performance, prevent injury, and stay strong in their sport. The next, I’m helping someone who has never exercised before and is simply looking to feel stronger, move better, and build confidence in their body.

I also work with people who have made exercise part of their lifestyle for years but are looking to add something different to their routine something that challenges them in a smarter, more controlled way.

That’s the beauty of the reformer it meets you exactly where you are.

Strength From the Inside Out

Reformer Pilates isn’t just about looking stronger it’s about building strength from within.

One of the most powerful parts of Pilates is the focus on breathing. Proper breathwork helps activate the deep internal abdominal muscles your true core which support and stabilise the spine and pelvis.

These muscles are the foundation of movement.

When they’re stronger, we move with better control, better posture, and better balance. In simple terms: we move better.

That means less strain on the body, fewer compensations, improved performance, and often fewer injuries.

It’s not just exercise it’s movement education.

Why This Matters More Than Ever

As we get older, balance, coordination, and strength naturally decline, which increases the risk of falls.

Falls are one of the biggest causes of hospital admissions in the UK for older adults. Improving strength, posture, and balance is one of the best ways we can help prevent this.

Reformer Pilates helps improve both static and dynamic balance, supports joint health, strengthens muscles safely, and helps people stay independent, confident, and active for longer.

This is why Pilates is so much more than fitness it supports real life.

Why Athletes Love It Too

At the other end of the spectrum, athletes love reformer training because it improves precision, control, and efficiency.

Footballers use it to improve core stability and reduce injury risk.

Dancers use it to strengthen without creating unnecessary bulk while improving alignment, control, and mobility.

Runners use it to improve gait, hip stability, and movement patterns.

Strength athletes use it to improve mobility and address imbalances that traditional gym training can often miss.

Pilates trains the smaller stabilising muscles that are often overlooked but those muscles are often the key to performance.

It helps you move better, recover better, and perform better.

Why Work with Us at Symmetry?

At Symmetry, Pilates isn’t something we’ve added on it is our foundation.

We are true Pilates-trained instructors, and that makes a huge difference in the quality of teaching you receive.

All our instructors have completed or are completing a minimum of a Level 3 Mat Pilates qualification, ensuring every class is built on strong Pilates principles not just fitness trends. This gives our clients confidence that they are being taught safely, effectively, and with purpose.

Our teaching goes beyond simply delivering a workout we focus on movement quality, body awareness, alignment, and long term results.

As the founder of Symmetry and lead instructor, I bring over 20 years of experience in health and fitness as an athlete, athletics coach, teacher, and lecturer in primary physical education. Movement, performance, and helping people build confidence in their bodies has always been at the centre of what I do.

When choosing a class and instructor, we know everyone connects with something different and that’s exactly why our team is so special.

At Symmetry, every instructor brings their own identity and expertise to the classes they teach.

Becci brings her background as a competitive gymnast, with fantastic body awareness, strength, and precision, fun and movements flow beautifully together.

Scarlet brings superb fitness knowledge and her experience from competitive volleyball and athletics, helping clients feel strong, capable, and challenged, she will challenge you in the most polite way!

Fran brings a deep expertise in classical Pilates, with a strong focus on control, alignment, and traditional Pilates principles.

This variety means that whatever your goals, personality, or starting point, you’ll find a class and instructor that feels right for you.

With our small group sessions, you’ll never feel lost in the room you’ll feel supported, guided, and truly looked after.

Whether you’re brand new to Pilates or looking to progress your training, at Symmetry you can be confident there’s a session to suit you.

Reformer is for Life

That’s what I love most.

Reformer Pilates isn’t just for one type of person.

It’s for the athlete chasing performance.
It’s for the busy parent with back pain.
It’s for the person rebuilding confidence after injury.
It’s for the older adult wanting to stay strong and independent.
It’s for the beginner who just wants to start somewhere.

It grows with you.

And being able to help people at every stage of that journey is exactly why I love teaching it.

At Symmetry, we don’t just teach exercise, we help people move better, feel stronger, and trust their bodies again.

That’s the real power of Reformer Pilates.
